Our History
In 1989, the IKRON Self-Government group was asked to generate unique ideas of services that may benefit individuals with mental illness. The group voted unanimously to plan and develop a fitness facility with a focus on helping individuals struggling with physical health symptoms, such as weight gain, poor diet, high blood pressure, etc. The group wrote a proposal to the Ohio Department of Mental Health and received a grant award to create a wellness center. The center, called the IKRON Wellness Club, received non profit 501(c)(3) status. After one year, their Board of Trustees successfully obtained a contract from the County Mental Health Board to continue wellness services for the local mental health community. In 1996, the Board changed the center's name to the Mighty Vine Wellness Club.
